Go $8.95 Jónsi has spent more than a decade writing epic compositions with Sigur Rós, creating some of the finest, most acclaimed albums of the last ten years. The choice to make an album of solo recordings came together as a solution to a backlog of songs Jónsi had written that didn't seem to fit within the Sigur Rós context. Go is a different beast entirely. Ecstatic, dramatic and alive, it features ... |

Chapters: 1856 Ships, Uss Anacostia, Hms Alert, Laurent Millaudon, Meissner's Taxonomic Arrangement of Dryandra, Css Selma, Uss Western World, Meissner's Taxonomic Arrangement of Banksia, Rms Persia, Css Curlew, Uss Roebuck, Uss Colorado, Curlew, Uss Two Sisters, Uss Ceres, Uss Choctaw, Css Savannah, Hms Surprise, Hms Sepoy, Lammermuir, Css Webb, Css Grampus, Santiago. Excerpt: Carl Meissner 's taxonomic arrangement of Banksia was published in 1856, as part of his chapter on the Proteaceae in A. P. de Candolle 's Prodromus systematis naturalis regni vegetabilis . It was the first attempt to provide an infrageneric classification for the genus, aside from Robert Brown 's publication of two subgenera in 1810. Meissner's arrangement stood until 1870, when it was superseded by the arrangement of George Bentham . Meissner's arrangement was an excellent survey of the known species at that time, but his infrageneric taxa were all highly heterogeneous. Background Banksia and Taxonomy of Banksia Banksia is a genus of around 80 species in the plant family Proteaceae . An iconic Australian wildflower and popular garden plant , they are recognised by their flower spikes or domes, and their fruiting "cones". They grow in forms varying from prostrate woody shrubs to trees up to 35 metres tall, and occur in all but the most arid areas of Australia. As heavy producers of nectar , they are important sources of food for nectariferous animals such as honeyeaters and honey possum , and they are of economic importance to the nursery and cut flower industries. However they are seriously threatened by a number of processes including land clearing, frequent burning, and disease, and a number of species are rare and endangered .Specimens of Banksia were first collected by Sir Joseph Banks and Dr Daniel |

A Child's Garden Of Verses ; And, Underwoods $21.19 Purchase of this book includes free trial access to www.million-books.com where you can read more than a million books for free. This is an OCR edition with typos.Excerpt from book:I SHOULD like to rise and go Where the golden apples grow; — Where below another sky Parrot islands anchored lie, And, watched by cockatoos and goats, Lonely Crusoes building boats; — Where in sunshine reaching out Eastern cities, miles about, Are with mosque and minaret Among sandy gardens set, And the rich goods from near and far Hang for sale in the bazaar, — Where the Great Wall round China goes, And on one side the desert blows, And with bell and voice and drum, Cities on the other hum; — Where are forests, hot as fire, Wide as England, tall as a spire, Full of apes and cocoa-nuts And the negro hunters' huts; — Where the knotty crocodile Lies and blinks in the Nile, And the red flamingo flies Hunting fish before his eyes; — Where in jungles, near and far, Man-devouring tigers are, Lying close and giving ear Lest the hunt be drawing near, Or a comer-by be seen Swinging in a palanquin; — Where among the desert sands Some deserted city stands, All its children, sweep and prince.. Grown to manhood ages since, Not a foot in street or house, Not a stir of child or mouse, And when kindly falls the night, In all the town no spark of light. There I'll come when I'm a man With a camel caravan; Light a fire in the gloom Of some dusty dining-room; See the pictures on the walls, Heroes, fights and festivals; And in a corner find the toys Of the old Egyptian boys. SINGING OF speckled eggs the birdie sings And nests among the trees; The sailor sings of ropes and things In ships upon the seas. The children sing in far Japan, The children sing in Spain; The organ with the organ man Is singing in the rain. LOOKING FORWARD WHEN I am grown to man's estate I shall be very proud and great, And tell the other girls and boys Not to meddle with my toys. A |

I have written about world events, romance and spiritual experiences as well as the highs and lows we encounter in life. Also included are the fairy tales that I have always loved to write. Our journeys through life reminds me of the changing seasons and much of my writing is comparing nature with the human stages of life. From one small seed a tree will grow tall and from its roots a forest will come to be. As does one seed from man when planted will flourish; thus grows a family tree. |

Chapters: Animal Breeds Originating in Belgium, Belgian, Belgian Bearded D'anvers, Beltex, Brabanter, Belgian Red Cattle, Barbu de Watermael, Piétrain, Belgian D'everberg, Belgian Fawn. Excerpt: The Belgian horse, Belgian Heavy Horse, Brabançon, or Brabant is a draft horse breed which comes from the West-Brabantian region of Belgium. They are one of the strongest of the heavy breeds. Colors normally are a type of light chestnut sometimes called a "sorrel," with a flaxen mane and tail. On average the Belgian will grow to weigh slightly over 1 ton or 2,000 pounds. Currently, the world's tallest Belgian Draft is Radar, a gelding foaled in 1998 in Iowa. He stands at 19.3½ hands high, which means he is 6 feet 7½ inches (2.02 metres) tall at the withers, and weighs over 2,400 lb (1,090 kg). Belgians have a high occurrence of junctional epidermolysis bullosa (JEB), an inherited genetic disorder that causes newborn foals to lose large areas of skin and have other abnormalities, normally resulting in euthanasia. A study conducted in 2001-2003 found that 17.1% of tested Belgians in the US and Canada were carriers, including 13.5% of stallions and 28.9% of mares. If carriers are not mated, JEB can be avoided, and scientists are studying the disease further in the hope of completely eliminating it. Belgians have also been identified to be at risk for chronic progressive lymphedema, a chronic progressive disease that includes symptoms of progressive swelling, hyperkeratosis and fibrosis of distal limbs. The disease is similar to chronic lymphedema in humans. The world's largest Belgian Horse was named Brooklyn Supreme, who weighed 3,200 pounds (1,450 kg) and stood at 19.2 hands (1.98 m). Chapters: Ecology of Banksia, Timeline of Banksia, List of Banksia Species, the Genus Banksia L.f., the Banksia Atlas, the Banksias. Excerpt: The ecology of Banksia refers to all the relationships and interactions among the plant genus Banksia and its environment . Banksia has a number of adaptations that have so far enabled the genus to survive despite dry, nutrient-poor soil, low rates of seed set, high rates of seed predation and low rates of seedling survival. These adaptations include proteoid roots and lignotubers ; specialised floral structures that attract nectariferous animals and ensure effective pollen transfer; and the release of seed in response to bushfire. The arrival of Europeans in Australia has brought new ecological challenges. European colonisation of Australia has directly affected Banksia through deforestation , exploitation of flowers and changes to the fire regime. In addition, the accidental introduction and spread of plant pathogens such as Phytophthora cinnamomi (dieback) pose a serious threat to the genus's habitat and biodiversity. Various conservation measures have been put in place to mitigate these threats, but a number of taxa remain endangered .Background Main article: Banksia Banksia is a genus of around 170 species in the plant family Proteaceae . An iconic Australian wildflower and popular garden plant , Banksia s are most commonly associated with their elongate flower spikes and fruiting "cones", although less than half of Banksia species possess this feature. Excerpt: See text. B. bidwillii flowersBrachychiton (Kurrajong, Bottletree) is a genus of 31 species of trees and large shrubs, native to Australia (the centre of diversity, with 30 species), and New Guinea (one species). Fossils from New South Wales and New Zealand are estimated to be 50 million years old, corresponding to the Tertiary. They grow to 4 30m tall, and some are dry-season deciduous. Several species (though not all) are pachycaul plants with a very stout stem for their overall size, used to store water during periods of drought. The leaves show intraspecific variation and generally range from entire to deeply palmately lobed with long slender leaflet-like lobes joined only right at the base. Their sizes range from 4 20cm long and wide. All species are monoecious with separate male and female flowers on the same plant. The flowers have a bell-shaped perianth consisting of a single series of fused lobes which is regarded as a calyx despite being brightly coloured in most species. The female flowers have five separate carpels that can each form a woody fruit containing several seeds. The flower colour is often variable within species. Eastern forest species drop their foliage before flowering but those of the drier regions carry the flowers while in leaf. The name Brachychiton is derived from the Greek brachys, short, and chiton, tunic, in referring to its loose seed coats. The generic name is often misconstrued as being of neuter gender, with the specific names then incorrectly amended. Thus B. rupestre and B. p... More: |
